Air Transat pilots in Canada have announced that they may launch a strike within the next 72 hours after failing to reach an agreement in long-running contract negotiations.
According to the ALPA union, negotiations for a new contract covering 750 pilots have been ongoing for nearly a year. Pilots, who describe the existing 2015 contract as outdated, voted 99 percent in favor of authorizing a strike.
Air Transat management called the strike warning premature, noting that it has offered a five-year proposal including salary increases and improved conditions. However, the union rejected the offer, arguing that it remains insufficient and that negotiations are being intentionally prolonged.
